Kent Ayyappa Temple warmly invites all devotees, families, monthly donors and well-wishers to participate in the sacred Monthly Pradosha Pooja, a special evening dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Pradosham is one of the most auspicious occasions in the Hindu calendar for seeking Lord Shiva’s divine grace. Worship performed during Pradosha Kalam is believed to remove negative karma, bring peace, prosperity, good health, spiritual progress and fulfilment of sincere prayers.

Whether you are observing Pradosham for the first time or have been practising this sacred vrat for many years, we welcome you to join us in devotion and receive the blessings of Lord Shiva.

The Significance of Pradosham

Pradosham falls on the Trayodashi Tithi (13th lunar day) during both the waxing and waning phases of the moon, occurring twice every lunar month.

According to the Skanda Purana, worshipping Lord Shiva during the sacred twilight period known as Pradosha Kalam is especially powerful. It is believed that Lord Shiva performs the cosmic dance (Ananda Tandavam) during this divine period while Nandi Deva receives the prayers of devotees.

The observance of Pradosha is believed to:

Remove accumulated karma
Bring peace and harmony to family life
Bless devotees with good health
Remove obstacles
Improve prosperity and career
Grant spiritual growth
Bestow Lord Shiva’s divine grace

Pradosha Worship at Kent Ayyappa Temple

In India, Pradosha worship is generally observed around sunset.

During the UK summer months, the temple conducts the Pradosha Pooja between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM, allowing devotees to gather together after work while maintaining the sanctity of the evening worship.

Fasting from sunrise until the evening pooja (optional)

Offering Bilva leaves, milk, honey, ghee, curd and tender coconut
Participating in temple worship and Deeparadhana

Even if fasting is not possible, sincere prayer and participation in the pooja are considered highly meritorious.
